Sam Davenport and Irene Clary, both of Gainesville, announce the engagement of their daughter Lindsay McKew Davenport to Eric Byrd Smithson, son of Jim Smithson and Susan Smithson, both of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Lenny Baker of Gainesville, the late James E. Baker, Mana Davenport of Rome and the late Raymond Davenport. She is a 1999 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2003 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in public relations. She received a doctorate of jurisprudence in 2007 from Mercer Law School in Macon. She is a member of the Junior League of Hall County.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Thomas and Flora "Nikki" Byrd and Arthur Donald and Nell Lou Dorsey Smithson.

He is a 1999 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2004 from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro with a bachelor's degree in business. He is president of J. Byrd Properties in Atlanta.

The couple plan to wed Sept. 19, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
