After an exciting finish to the Hall County duals championships on Saturday, area wrestling teams will hit the mats again, this time for area traditionals tournaments.

Area 8-AA, headlined by the uber-successful Jefferson Dragons, will compete beginning Friday at Elbert County High in Elberton.

Area 8-AAA, which saw stiff competition between Chestatee and North Hall in the duals, will take place Friday and Saturday at Chestatee.

Flowery Branch will compete at the Area 8-AAAA tournament beginning Friday at Habersham Central.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: A busy week on the hardcourt will be headlined by a rematch of the boys Lanierland championship game when Gainesville visits East Hall on Saturday.

Winners of 10 of their last 12 games, the Vikings will try to avenge their 30-point loss to Gainesville at Lanierland.

The Red Elephants have lost four of their last seven games.

The North Hall boys, which have won 12 consecutive games, will take on White County on Tuesday at home before hosting Franklin County on Friday.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: The Georgia Bulldogs will hit the road for two games this week, facing Auburn on Wednesday and Tennessee on Saturday. They will try to turn around a recent slump that has seen them lose five of their last six games.

Georgia Tech will play one on the road at Florida State on Wednesday, before coming home to face Boston College on Saturday.

SUPER BOWL: Two weeks removed from victories in their respective conference championship games, the New England Patriots and the New York Giants will square off for the Lombardi Trophy at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday.

The game will be a rematch of the 2007 thriller that saw the Giants win 17-14, halting the Patriots’ pursuit of a perfect season.
