The Gainesville High boys golf team shot a team total 291 (+7) at Chateau Elan Golf Club on Monday to capture the Region 8-AAAAA title and its fifth consecutive region championship.
Junior Spencer Ralston (70) secured his sixth individual title of the season on the first playoff hole after tying with teammate Nathan Williams in regulation.
The victory was the team’s third title this season.
Brady Holcomb (74), Davis Weaver (77), Lawson King (78) and Ryan Hogan (79) rounded out the rest of Gainesville’s scorers.
With the win, Gainesville is automatically qualified for the Class AAAAA state tournament on May 18 at The Country Club of Columbus.
The Red Elephants will next play on May 1-2 at Chattahoochee.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS FINISH AS RUNNER-UP: The Lady Red Elephants finished in second place at Chateau Elan Golf Club, shooting a team total of 298 to Winder-Barrow’s 281 in Region 8-AAAAA championship meet on Monday.
Ashleigh Bishop led Gainesville with a 78, edging out Winder-Barrow’s Savannah Rainbolt by a stroke. Julianna Towns added a 101, while Grace Brown carded a 119.
With the result, Gainesville will play in the Class AAAAA sectional tournament on May 4, while Winder-Barrow will advance to the state tournament in Columbus on May 18.
JOHNSON GIRLS FINISH THIRD: Madison Stewart carded a 92 in the Region 8-AAAA as the Lady Knights took third place on Monday. Johnson’s girls finished with a team score of 280.
Kristin Waters shot a 93 for the Lady Knights, while Jenny Barrett finished with a 95.
