Football scoreboard: War Eagles win at Gilmer, 33-21

After an hour-and-30 minute rain delay, Chestatee took the field and defeated Gilmer 33-21 on Friday at Huff-Mosley Stadium in Elijay.

 

“They played real hard against a real good Gilmer team,” coach Stan Luttrell said of the War Eagles (4-2, 3-0 Region 7A-AAA). “It was a dirty, sloppy game with all the water on the ground.”

 

Chestatee plays host to White County at 7:30 p.m. Friday at War Eagle Stadium.

 

BUFORD 65, CROSS KEYS 0

Class AA’s third-ranked Wolves set a new school record for most points scored in a quarter, scoring 44 points in the first against Cross Keys on Friday at Tom Riden Stadium.

 

Quarterback Alex Ross went 3-for-6 with 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Wolves (5-1, 3-1 Region 6-AA). Jessel Curry had a touchdown reception and a 53-yard touchdown run.

 

Buford plays host to Thomson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

APALACHEE 21, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 13

Chuck Rucker caught a 28-yard touchdown and had a 65-yard touchdown punt return to lead Habersham Central in the loss against first-place Apalachee on Friday in Mount Airy.

 

Junior Austin Brown was 7-for-17 passing with 70 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders, and Kevin Ellison had nine rushes for 69 yards.

 

Habersham Central (3-4, 3-4 Region 8-AAA) visits Monroe Area at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Legion Field.

 

SOCIAL CIRCLE 48, LAKEVIEW 7

Trevor Price scored on a 10-yard touchdown run for Lakeview Academy’s only score against Social Circle on Friday at Redskins Stadium.

 

The Lions (1-4, 0-2 Region 8-A) play host to Prince Avenue at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

FRANKLIN COUNTY 42, JACKSON COUNTY 7

The Panthers lost their third game in a row, falling to second-place Franklin County on Friday in Carnesville.

 

Jackson County (3-3, 0-3 Region 8-AAA) plays host to Eastside at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
