The Buford softball team started the season out with a win Wednesday night, taking down Lambert 4-2 at home.
Ansleigh Hollifield got the start for the Lady Wolves, striking out six over five innings while only allowing one hit. Offensively, Buford was led by Kara Taylor, who blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Lady Wolves on top early. Abbi Perkins was 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI double, and freshman Emma Castorri also batted in a run, going 1 for 1 in her first ever high school game.
Buford will be back in action on Thursday, taking on Forsyth Central at 4:30 p.m. and North Gwinnett at 8 p.m.
Flowery Branch split a tri-match Wednesday night, falling to Jefferson 25-14, 25-21 in the first match of the evening but bouncing back to beat North Oconee 25-19, 25-18.
The Lady Falcons were led by Sierra Lutz’s seven kills, one ace and one block on the night. Katie Williams added three kills, three aces and six digs, while Lyza Thigpen contributed two kills, 16 assists and four aces.
Flowery Branch will play next on Saturday in the Queen of the Court tournament taking place at Apalachee and Winder-Barrow high schools.
