ATHENS — Xavier's Ta'Shia Phillips scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Musketeers to a 56-44 win over Georgia on Tuesday night.
Phillips, a 6-foot-6 center, dominated early, scoring 12 of the Musketeers' first 18 points as they built a 24-10 lead. She also capped an 18-0 run in the second half that put the game away for Xavier (10-4).
Danielle Taylor came off the bench to lead Georgia (9-4) with 12 points.
No Georgia starter scored until Ashley Houts hit a breakaway layup more than 14 minutes into the first half. Taylor provided most of the first-half offense with 10 points.
The Lady Bulldogs took their first lead early in the second half thanks to a 12-0 run, capped by two short jumpers and Christy Marshall's two free throws. Georgia led 36-30 with 16:16 to play.
