PoliceLights

A woman was charged with DUI after her car crashed into a power pole Saturday resulting in the closing of Browns Bridge Road for several hours to repair the damage.

Cpl. Major Patterson of the Georgia State Patrol said late Saturday, Dec. 28, that Sharon Bowles, 54, of Gainesville was also charged with failure to maintain lane and not wearing a seatbelt after the crash about 10:19 a.m.

Patterson wrote in an email that Bowles was driving a Nissan Maxima when she failed to negotiate a curve and hit a curb, which caused a blowout and Bowles to lose control of the car.

Bowles was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Browns Bridge Road from McEver to Skelton roads was closed for several hours while utility crews fixed the pole.
