A Regions Bank branch in Gainesville is one of 121 Regions branches that will close early next year.

The Regions branch at Lanier Village Estates at 4000 Village View Drive will consolidate with the branch less than two miles away at 3312 Thompson Bridge Road. The Helen branch at 705 Brucken Strasse also will consolidate with the Cleveland branch at 15 Kytle St. on Jan. 29.

Evelyn Mitchell, corporate communications manager for Regions Bank, projects the 121 closings across 16 states will save the bank an annual $20 million.

“We’re working with our customers to make this transition as easy as possible for them,” she said. “We are always managing our branch network to make sure we’re serving customers as efficiently as we can.”

Mitchell said in most of these closings, the branches Regions Bank is consolidating are within two or three miles of other branches. She said the majority of the five to 10 employees working at each of the closing branches will be moved to other Regions Bank locations and she expects no major job losses.

Regions entered the Gainesville banking market in 1995 when it merged with First National Bancorp. After the closure of the Lanier Village branch, Regions will have nine other branches in Hall County.

All Regions branches in Jefferson, Commerce, Winder and Athens will remain open, Mitchell said.

She said the bank is sending a letter to all customers who originally opened an account at one of the closing branches to inform them their account will be moved to the nearest Regions location. Customers can still use their Regions checks and debit cards as usual.

Customers with questions can visit a Regions branch or regions.com for more information. They can also call 800-REGIONS.
