Qualifying packets are now available for Gainesville’s Nov. 3 City Council elections.

Packets contain all documents to qualify as a candidate and can be requested from the city clerk’s office.

Contact Denise Jordan via email at djordan@gainesville.org, or by calling 770-535-6865, to schedule an appointment.

The qualifying period is scheduled from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Suite 303 of the administration building, 300 Henry Ward Way.

Individuals running by the pauper provisions must submit an affidavit and petition with at least 138 signatures from eligible voters during the qualifying period.

Write-in candidates must submit written notice to the city clerk by Sept. 9 and file the required documents by Sept. 14.
Council seats for Wards 2, 3 and 5, as well as Board of Education seats for District 2, 3 and 5, are up for election this year.
Ward 3 representative Myrtle Figueras and Ward 2 representative Bob Hamrick have said they do not intend to seek re-election.

Gainesville resident and business owner Zack Thompson has announced that he will run for the Ward 2 seat.
Councilmember Ruth Bruner, meanwhile, said she will seek another four-year term as the Ward 5 representative.
