A Gainesville man was struck in the face multiple times Tuesday evening with a gun by a man attempting to rob him, police said.

Gainesville Police took the robbery report after 8 p.m., Jan. 7 regarding an incident on Summit Street.

The victim, a 48-year-old man, was outside of his apartment when the suspect approached wearing a white hoodie and black bandanna covering his nose and mouth.

The suspect, described as a skinny black male roughly 5 feet, 11 inches tall, had a handgun and demanded money from the victim, but the victim had nothing on him, police said.

“The suspect used the handgun as a blunt weapon and struck the victim in the face/head multiple times before fleeing in a black sedan,” Cpl. Jessica Van wrote in an email.

The victim had superficial injuries to his face and hands, Van said.

The case is still active, and anyone with information is asked to call Gainesville Police.

“We ask the community to stay vigilant and always pay attention to their surroundings, as we may never know who is watching or waiting for an opportunity to attack,” Van said.
