Sketch of a possible suspect

Investigators from the Gainesville Police Department are continuing to search for three suspects who acted as police when they pulled over a man in mid-December.

Police are looking for three men they say pulled over another man on Dawsonville Highway near Club Sports Road around 11:30 p.m. Dec. 17.

The victim told police a white SUV with chrome wheels and tinted windows pulled up behind him with flashing blue lights from its grill. Investigators believe it may have been a Ford Expedition or similar vehicle.

Public Information Officer Kevin Holbrook said the man believed he was being stopped by police and stopped on the shoulder. That's when one of the suspects displayed some sort of badge, but rather than writing a ticket, the men pulled him out of the car and held him at gunpoint for 20 minutes.

The man originally reported the men stole his cell phone and nothing else, but he later found the phone in his car.

With the help of the victim, investigators were able to complete a sketch of one of the men involved. He is described as a black male in his late teens to mid-20s, approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing approximately 110 pounds, with black braided hair and brown eyes.

Another suspect is described as a heavy set black male, weighing about 250 pounds.

The third suspect is described as a white male approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall.
