The Gainesville State College Students In Free Enterprise Team is one of five SIFE teams across the country that have won the Goldman Sachs Foundation Teaching Capital Markets Special Competition.

That means the Gainesville State students will join five teams from China and five from France for the 2009 SIFE Capital Markets Summit in October, held in conjunction with the SIFE World Cup in Berlin.

The SIFE teams designed a product to teach capital markets to high school students. The Gainesville State College team created a 40-page student workbook, PowerPoint presentation and tests for an eight-module program.

As part of the awards package, the Gainesville State SIFE team will received an all-expense paid trip to Berlin for two students and $1,000 in prize money to be used for the continuation and expansion of team projects.

The names of the two team members who are chosen to attend the summit in Germany will be announced at a later date. Team members are Juan Llanes, Brian Beard, Stephanie Martin, Jerry "JJ" Johnson, Katie Taylor, Ismael "Junior" Navarro, Clayton Dowdy, Jenny Syhapanha, Scott Sims and Steven Swing.
