It’s high time to bring poodle skirts and bobby socks back to Gainesville, and that is just what the Voices of North Georgia intend to do. On Friday night, the choral group presents "Rockin’ at the Hop: A Romantic Cabaret." This is the third annual romantic cabaret for the Voices of North Georgia, and the event is a fundraiser for the group. Proceeds go to help meet orchestral needs for the group, as well as to benefit a scholarship fund in memory of former member Kenneth Baumgartner. This year’s performance features a ’50s-style theme. The Voices of North Georgia will be performing hit songs from the era to entertain the crowd. Following the singing, patrons should be ready to cut some rug as a deejay cranks out more ’50s tunes. Hospitality chairwoman for the Voices of North Georgia, Jean McCorlew, said the night should be a big hit. "Last year we did a ’40s-themed cabaret, and it was just a blast. Everyone came out with smiles on their faces," she said. "We decided to keep with the decade theme this year." "People really seemed to enjoy the dancing last year, so we decided to include a little more time for it this year," she said. "Come join us at the malt shop. Put on your bobby socks and loafers, bring your sweetheart and come join us for a rocking good time," McCorlew said. Tickets are $15, both in advance and at the door, but McCorlew encouraged folks to get tickets early as space is limited. Advance tickets can be purchased through The Arts Council by calling 678-591-1545. The festivities will take place from 7:30-10 p.m. on Friday in the Grand Ballroom at the Gainesville Civic Center.
