Chanticleer was formed in 1978 and has toured around the world. The group is famous for its “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” says the San Francisco Chronicle.
Its current director is Thomasville native William Fred Scott, who was the artistic director and principal conductor of the Atlanta Opera from 1985 to 2005, and associate conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 1981 to 1988, selected by legendary conductor Robert Shaw. He comes to Chanticleer after a five-year tenure as director of choral music at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
