Two of the area’s theater groups are joining to perform the comedy “The Foreigner” by Larry Shue the next two weekends.

Live Arts Community Theatre of Buford and Fifth Row Center of Flowery Branch are joining forces for the performance.

The alliance began in late July when Live Arts needed a facility to perform their show, “Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know.” They needed a space and Fifth Row Center provided one.

From there, Live Arts president Becca Parker signed on to direct “The Foreigner.” She also designing the set for Fifth Row’s Christmas show, “Narnia,” the musical based on C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” which will be performed at the new Buford Community Center.

Fifth Row Center Artistic Director, Donna Chalmers, says that working together with Live Arts has benefited both theaters.

“Community theaters provide wonderful opportunities for all age groups to get on stage or work a tech crew,” Chalmers said. “But small theaters like ours, which are nonprofit, greatly benefit by extending a helping hand to each other and fill in gaps for each other’s limited resources.”

“The Foreigner” brings residents of a small, Georgia fishing lodge together with a stranger who they have been told is from an exotic foreign country and speaks absolutely no English. Hilarity ensues as “the foreigner” tries to teach the group of Georgians all about his “culture.”

Performances are scheduled for Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7 at Fifth Row’s studio, 5509 Main St., Flowery Branch). Tickets are $12 adults, $10 students and seniors. Shows begin at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
