This year’s Suwanee Day festival is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Town Center Park in Suwanee.
The festival opens with a parade up Buford Highway by Town Center Park and then down Main Street. Cash prizes are awarded to the top parade participants.
Grand marshal duties will be shared by two accomplished young women: 2008 and 2012 Olympian and former University of Georgia swimmer Amanda Weir; and Suwanee area resident Leighton Jordan, the current Miss Georgia who will compete in the Miss America pageant in January.
In addition to more than 225 arts and crafts, food, and sponsor booths, Suwanee Day 2012 will feature nearly 12 hours of entertainment on two stages. A full entertainment schedule is available at www.suwaneeday.com.
The Smithereens, known for writing and playing catchy 1960s-influenced power pop, will be the headline performer beginning at 8:15 p.m.
New this year: Man Land, which will include sofas, TVs and access to food and beverages so football fans can enjoy the festival without missing their favorite game.
The concert and admission to Suwanee Day is free. The festival will conclude about 10 p.m. following a fireworks display.
