Parents of little girls who like to dress as princesses or little boys who want to don first century Roman armor can find a summer camp in North Georgia that’s perfect for their children.

Registration season for summer camps is underway. Gainesville and Hall County have camps varying in activity, length and price to fit a child’s camp needs. Whether it’s a traditional sports camp, a chance to explore nature or a week of theater training, parents can find the perfect activity to engage their child this summer.

Gainesville/Hall County

Quinlan summer art camps

“The Art of Illustration:” 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6-10, June 13-17, June 20-24, June 27 to July 1, July 4-8, July 11-15, July 18-22 and July 25-29 at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center, 514 Green St. NE, Gainesville. Cost is $125 per week, or $100 for members.

New Pottery Camp: 2-3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $25 per child per day. The pottery project may be taken home at the end of the day.

Scholarships are available for Quinlan summer art camps. First- through eighth-grade students with exemplary artistic skills who cannot afford camp may apply. Scholarship forms are due Friday, May 20.

Alicats Dance Camps

“Pretty Princess Camp:” For girls ages 3-7 from 8 a.m. to noon June 27-30. Come dressed as a princess, make crafts and learn a dance to perform for parents at the end of the week. Born to Perform “Seussical Camp:” For girls ages 5 and older. Two weeks of camp are available, July 18-22 and July 25-29. Half-day sessions are from 8 a.m. to noon and full-day sessions are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Costs vary by week and length of day from $199 for one, half-day week to $499 for two full-day weeks. Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County

Summer Camp: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 through July 15. Cost is $150 for one child, $200 for two children, or $75 per child for three children or more. For $50, children can participate in an extra week, July 18-22. Camp is running at all four locations and includes breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Northeast Georgia History Center

“Time Travel Summer:” 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in two sessions, June 6-10 and June 13-17 at the history center, 322 Academy St. NE, Gainesville. Cost is $100 or $75 for History Center members. A 15 percent discount is applied to the cost of siblings. Campers will march in Roman armor, cook in medieval cauldrons and make Native American pottery.

DreamBox Theatre

“Night at the Zoo” June 20-24 and “Fairy Tale Rock” July 11-15 at the Academies of Discovery, 3215 Poplar Springs Road, Gainesville. Both camps run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Register elementary children in rising first through sixth grade by May 1 for “early bird” tuition cost of $160.

Basketball Camp

“Bounce Out the Stigma” Camp from “Mighty Mike” Simmel, 13-year Harlem Wizards professional basketball player, in partnership with Hall County Parks and Leisure. Special needs youth from across the state invited 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27 to July 1 at the North Hall Community Center, 4175 Nopone Road, Gainesville. Registration is $45.

Humane Society of Northeast Georgia

Pet P.A.L.S Summer Camp:  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13–17 and July 11-15 for ages 7-9 and June 20–24 and July 18-22 for ages 10-12 at Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville. Summer Camps 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31 through July 29. Elachee Nature Science Center, 2125 Elachee Drive, Gainesville. Discovery Day Camp: ages 6-12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31 to July 22. Extended hours available. Cost is $85 for residents and $115 for nonresidents. Camp at Gainesville Middle School,1581 Community Way. Campers can stay the whole summer or as little as one week. Breakfast, lunch and swim lessons included. 

Horizon Camp: ages 6-12, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 23-27. Cost is $65 for residents, $90 for nonresidents. Camp will be at the Martha Hope Cabin, 528 Prior St. NE.

Kids on the Go Travel Camp: ages 6-12, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 23-27. Some extended hours available. Cost is $150 for residents, $200 for nonresidents. Camp will be at Fair Street Neighborhood Center, 715 Fair St.

Camp Kazoo: ages 6-12, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 25-29. Cost is $65 for residents, $90 for nonresidents. Camp will be at the Martha Hope Cabin, 528 Prior St. NE.

J. A. Walters YMCA

Rising kindergarten through sixth grade camps’ cost per week is $110 for members and $135 for nonmembers. The J.A. Walters YMCA is at 2455 Howard Road in Gainesville. Camps are also available at Flowery Branch Elementary School, 5544 Radford Road in Flowery Branch.

J.A. Walters YMCA

Baseball: ages 6-13, June 6-10. Cost is $110 members/$165 nonmembers. Includes a field trip to a Gwinnett Braves game.

Soccer: ages 6-13, June 13-17. Cost is $110 members/$165 nonmembers.

Splish Splash: ages 6-13, June 20-24. Cost is $165 members/$200 nonmembers. Children do not have to be proficient swimmers.

Flag football: ages 7-13, June 27 to July 1. Cost is $110 members/$165 nonmembers. They will visit the Falcons Training Camp facility for a tour.

Mixed Sports: ages 6-13, July 5-8. Cost is $110 members/$165 nonmembers. Each day, campers will get to try out different sports.

Volleyball: ages 10 and older, July 11-15  Cost is $110 members and $165 nonmembers. Campers will learn the basics of serving, setting and working as a team.  Each day the campers will play games.

Basketball: ages 6-13, July 18-22. Cost is $110 members and $165 nonmembers. Campers will travel off site each day to a local gym to work on skills and return to the YMCA to play games.

Bowling: ages 6-13, July 25-29. Cost is $110 members and $165 nonmembers. Campers will travel to a local bowling alley each day and return to the YMCA each afternoon for fun activities.
