A whimsical musical tale that brings the history of North Georgia to life will be performed next weekend at the Sautee Nacoochee Center.
"Headwaters," a widely-acclaimed performance drawn from regional folklore, returns for SummerFest 2011 featuring the best songs and stories from the last four years of the production.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. July 7-9 and 2 p.m. July 10.
The play opens with a song about the 12 rivers with headwaters here and the Native American history of the region. Not every story is a joyous one; people have lived through hard times in the mountains, and there are stories of struggle.
The most beloved characters are a pair of bears, revealed as a pair of grumpy writers who will work for MoonPies and the true authors of the "Headwaters" stories.
The performance includes dancing characters and puppets, backed by the SNOrchestra string band.
Performances will take place in the Historic Gymnasium at the Sautee Nacoochee Center. The Folk Pottery Museum and African-American Heritage Site will be open prior to the shows.
