Float down Soque River during annual festival June 4 in Clarkesville

Paddling down the Soque River for 1.5 miles in a boat and soaking in the serene atmosphere is the focus of an annual festival in Habersham County.

Hosted by the Soque River Watershed Association, the third annual Soque River Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at 100 Sam Pitts Circle in Clarkesville.

The paddle trip is the main event beginning just north of Clarkesville at Farm Hill and ending at Pitts Park.

The float is open to individuals and families for $15 per person. The cost includes the boat, shuttle, life jacket and guide. Registration is limited to 200 total boaters for the day. To register for the paddle, visit www.soque.org.

In addition to the paddle, the free festival will feature family-friendly activities such as outdoor games, a cardboard boat challenge and children’s activities including face painting, rainbarrel painting and water bug hunt.

Chicken wraps with fixings and sliced watermelon will be available for a fee.

Participants are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets to enjoy the streamside atmosphere as well as music for the day.
