Cowboys jumping into a saddle to ride a bull aiming to buck him off is the name of the game this weekend in Gainesville.

The Southeastern Championship Bullriding will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center. Gates open at 6 p.m. at 1855 Calvary Church Road in Gainesville.

Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children age 2 to 12. Children younger than 2 may enter for free. Tickets at the gate are $15.

Zackery Blair, events coordinator with Chicopee Woods Ag Center, said the event will feature a clown show and other vendors along with the more than 50 riders set to test their mettle. He added no barrel racing or bronco-busting events are on tap.

“But there is one interesting event,” he said. “They all volunteers to stand up in front of a gate, and then they release the bull. The last man standing wins $100.”

He said competitors sign a waiver before attempting to stay in an outlined circle and face a live bull.

“They usually pick the smallest bull,” Blair said. “Most do it to impress a girl. But once that gate opens, they run as fast as they can for the exit. People love it.”
