If you enjoy musical productions like "Guys and Dolls" and "How to Succeed in Business," then you’ll probably enjoy the Habersham Community Theater’s presentation of "Heart and Soul" on Dec. 31.

The New Year’s Eve celebration in Clarkesville is a fundraiser to help improve the Habersham Community Theater, according to president Alta Moseley.

Local musicians Mike Coleman, C.B. Henson, Laura Leigh Owenby and Barbara Luhn of "Off the Square" will be featured, playing "Heart and Soul," a celebration of the music of Frank Loesser.

Loesser most notably composed "Guys and Dolls" and "How to Succeed in Business," and several other works that folks are sure to recognize.

According to Moseley, the members of "Off the Square" live in the area and were quite helpful in getting this year’s event organized. In fact, they even suggested the idea.

"They did a modified performance last year in Sautee Nacoochee, and afterward they called and suggested doing it again this year as a fundraiser here," Moseley said.

"We’ve never done a New Year’s show, so we don’t know how the turnout will be. The theater has about a 100-person capacity, and ideally we’d like to see it filled," she said.

Proceeds from the presentation will be put to use in improving the theater. Particularly, Moseley said they want to improve the sound system, which is the one of the more common requests of patrons.

Moseley encouraged the community to come out and enjoy some wonderful music while benefitting a local theater group.

"It’s a great way to shop locally and not have to travel too far. We think people will respond well because there just isn’t too much going on in this area," she said.

The performance should run about two hours, with an intermission planned. During intermission, a dessert by Sweetbread’s will be served, along with a glass of champagne. "Heart and Soul" will begin at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for "Heart and Soul" are $25, and can be ordered by calling the theater at, or online at www.habershamtheater.org.
