Coached by former Gainesville High baseball coach Wayne Vickery, Team Georgia won the title in the Junior Sunbelt Classic last Wednesday night in McAlester, Okla.

Team Georgia won the championship game 21-2 in five innings against Team Texas at the Mike Deak Field in McAlester.

Team Georgia defeated teams representing Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Canada, Texas and Oklahoma during this year’s tournament.

"We didn’t have any (Brian) McCann’s or (Jeff) Francoeur’s on this year’s team," Vickery said. "But this team played extremely well."

Mill Creek High senior Matthew Grimes, who is already committed to Georgia Tech, won the championship game for Georgia.

Team Georgia scored 12 runs in the second inning of the championship game.
