The North Hall wrestling team is a Hall County champion once again.

The Trojans won the title a year ago, and defended it this weekend with a series of dominating performances at the Hall County Wrestling Championships this Friday and Saturday at Johnson High School. Flowery Branch finished the weekend in second place, while Gainesville slotted into third.

“Our guys really enjoyed the weekend, moreso than anything because we felt like we were able to do the things that we wanted to do this weekend,” North Hall coach David Nichols said. “We competed throughout the entire duration of every match that we were in, and we were able to continue to focus on our process of improvement and mental maturity. The big thing for us was obviously we’re excited about winning the championship, and certainly aren’t going to take anything from that, but even moreso, just excited that we’re continuing to become a team that we want to become.”

Over the course of the event North Hall outscored its opponents by a combined 607-39. Several Trojan wrestlers finished the weekend undefeated, as Dawson Thompson, Jacob Pedraza, Jack Whitmire, Damon Campbell, Cody Smith, Dalton Battle, Hunter Adams, Cade Miller, Logan Hawthorne, Logan West and Bowie Eisenberg all won every single match they participated in.

Nichols said he hopes the performance will get the team fired up heading into the bulk of the regular season, starting with a duals tournament next weekend in Cleveland, Tennessee.

“Anytime you get a lot of big wins, you’re going to have some positive momentum that comes off of that,” he said. “We’re looking forward to continue to wrestle some good competition and again, just trying to improve each time we step on the mat.”
