The Gwinnett Braves were edged in the homestand finale against the Syracuse Chiefs, losing 4-2 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville on Thursday night.

The game was overshadowed by a scary moment in which G-Braves starting pitcher Erik Cordier was struck in the head by a line drive and taken from the field on a stretcher in the top of the sixth inning. He was conscious and moving his arms and legs when he was on his way to Gwinnett Medical Center.

Cordier (1-4) allowed two runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts before being taken off the field by Coolray Field medical staff due to a laceration behind his right ear from a line drive in the sixth inning. First baseman Mauro Gomez was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while center fielder Matt Young went 2-for-4.
