Playoff games to be made up today

Game 3 of the Flowery Branch/Stephens County second round playoff series was postponed due to rain. The game was rescheduled for 5:30 today at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

1330-AM will broadcast Game 3 beginning at 5:20 p.m.. The game will be simulcast online at www.glory1330.com.

Jefferson’s Game 3 against Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy was also postponed and will be made up at 2 p.m. today in Jefferson.

Darnell advances in amateur tourney

Gainesville High graduate, and current Stetson University golfer, Lauren Darnell qualified for the team championship portion of the 32nd annual Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship which will be held June 16-21 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.

The qualifying round was held May 15 at The Oaks Course in Covington.

Darnell, who shot a 74, came in second to Katelyn Poplawski of Williston, Vt. Poplawski shot a 73.

Darnell was the second alternate at the same sectional qualifier a year ago.

Grandson of local couple to play at Montreat

North Carolina high school baseball standout Lewis Fraser has signed a letter of intent to play at Montreat College.

Fraser is the grandson of Robert and Myrna Sumpter, who are Gainesville residents.

Fraser played high school baseball at Owen High School in Black Mountain, N.C., where he went 5-2 with an 0.93 ERA and had 73 strikeouts in 45.1 innings his senior year.

He joins a Montreat team that finished fourth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a 37-18 overall record.
