West Hall’s Braden Simms threw a no-hitter on Monday in an 11-0 victory against Dawson County to open Region 7-3A play in Dawsonville.

In seven innings, Simms struck out 14 batters through seven innings.

Simms walked the first two batters of the game but found his groove.

At one point during the game, he retired 11 batters in a row.

“Last year, I was throwing a no-hitter but I didn’t get to finish the game,” Simms said. “So it meant a lot to do this one on my own. I had to keep the pitch limit down, but that’s all I needed tonight.”

Simms said that he realized around the fifth inning that he was throwing a no-hitter. He added that he can celebrate the game after the Spartans win the series against Dawson County.

Nick Sturm went 3 for 3 with two home runs and six runs batted in and Kyle Murphy hit a seventh-inning grand slam in the win.

On Wednesday, West Hall hosts Dawson County in Oakwood.
