West Hall locks top spot in 7-AAA

The West Hall High volleyball team earned three wins Tuesday night in Oakwood, as they defeated Johnson 2-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-22), West Forsyth 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) and Flowery Branch 2-1 (26-28, 25-23, 25-22).

With the win, the Lady Spartans (22-14, 9-0 Region 7-AAA) are the No. 1 seed in the Area 7-AAA tournament which begins Tuesday.

Senior Whitney Delp led West Hall with a three-match total of 19 digs, 17 assists, 14 kills and six aces.

West Hall’s Courtney Cox added 19 kills, Kayla Davis had 31 assists and 16 digs and sophomore Abigail Grindle added 19 digs and 15 kills.

In Johnson’s loss to West Hall, sophomore Shelley Farley led the Lady Knights with 25 assists.

Johnson rebounded from the loss to defeat Flowery Branch 2-0 (25-18, 25-18) as senior Katie Cole recorded 12 digs. Jordan Gustavel and Susie Boleman combined for 15 kills.

Johnson visits Providence at 5 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall picks up two

The North Hall High volleyball team defeated Gilmer 2-0 (25-16, 25-23) and Chestatee 2-0 (25-19, 25-14) Tuesday night in Elijay.

With the victory, North Hall (23-7, 9-1 Region 7-AAA) will be the No. 2 seed heading into the Area 7-AAA tournament.

Senior outside hitter Katie Spell led the Lady Trojans with 14 kills.

Senior setter Jennifer Morris added 11 assists, while Lauren Bolton recorded nine digs and Danielle Hollander added three aces.

In North Hall’s win against Chestatee, Caroline Coker had seven kills and Sara Anne McCoun added six assists.

Erica Lackey led North Hall with seven kills, two blocks, one ace and a dig.

In Chestatee’s 2-1 (26-24, 25-14, 15-13) loss to Gilmer, Emily Wilks had three aces, two kills and a block.

Ali Burnette added six kills and an ace, while Charlotte Hill recorded 14 assists.

Chestatee visits Riverwood at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Gainesville splits in tri-match

The Gainesville High volleyball team fell to Pickens 2-0 (25-18, 25-8), but rebounded to defeat East Hall 2-0 (25-18, 25-13) Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Taylor Ricketts led the Lady Red Elephants with a two-match total of 10 assists, seven kills, six digs, five blocks and five aces.

Madison Strickland added three blocks, one kill and an assist, Jasmine Jones had three kills and a block and Lauren Thomas contributed two assists and a kill.

Gainesville visits Clarke Central at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lakeview leaves Athens with win

The Lakeview Academy volleyball team defeated Athens Academy 2-1 (25-23, 14-25, 25-20), but lost to Clarke Central 2-0 (25-11, 25-19) Tuesday night in Athens.

In Lakeview’s first match, Janelle Francis led the Lady Lions (17-9, 5-1 Region 7A/AA) with six kills and five aces. Elif Alyanak added 11 assists, while Louisa Jacobs recorded nine kills.

Jacobs led the Lady Lions with three kills in their loss to Clarke Central.

Lakview plays host to North Oconee/Johnson at 5 p.m. Thursday.
