State wrestling duals: Jefferson advances, Commerce finishes second

Jefferson defeated Greater Atlanta Christian, 57-9, on Friday in Lyons to advance to the second round of the Class AA state team duals tournament.

The Dragons, who are in pursuit of their 10th straight team duals state title, will face Cook County beginning at 11 a.m. today in the second round of the tournament at Toombs County High in Lyons.

DUBLIN 35, BANKS COUNTY 32: The Leopards lost a close decision to the champion from Region 4-AA on Friday in the first round of the Class AA state duals tournament in Lyons.

Banks County will face Carver-Columbus beginning at 9 a.m. today in the loser’s bracket of the tournament at Toombs County High. The best the Leopards can finish in the tournament is third place.

COMMERCE PLACES SECOND IN CLASS A: After defeating Mount Zion and Gordon Lee on Friday in the first two rounds of the Class A state duals tournament, the Tigers fell in the championship match to the host Bremen High, which won it’s third consecutive Class A championship.

The second-place finish is the best for Commerce since a third-place finish in 2009.
