Sammy Smith comments on priorities if he is elected to the Gainesville City Board of Education.

The West Hall High softball team defeated Riverwood 8-5 in the opening round of the Class AAA North Sectionals on Friday at the Lanier Point Softball Complex in Gainesville.

Hannah Jarrells led the Lady Spartans with a 3-for-4 night at plate. Junior pitcher Emily Hammond  earned the complete game win for West Hall.

West Hall played Oconee County later in the evening.

The White County lost 6-5 to Westminster in its opening game.

Earlier, Lumpkin County softball team defeated Chamblee 7-1. Morgan Chapman led the Lady Indians with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, including two RBIs, while Emily Gaddis finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Senior pitcher Bridget Savage earned the complete game win with 10 strikeouts.

Lumpkin County next was to play Sandy Creek tonight.
