2006 vs Georgia Tech: Stafford to MassaquoiThe schedule is set, the teams are in place, and tipoff of the 48th Lanierland Basketball Tournament is just a day away.
Basketball coaches from around the county convened at Free Chapel in Gainesville on Wednesday morning to hammer out the final details, including team seeding and scheduling.
As determined by team winning percentage, the Gainesville girls (5-1) and the Flowery Branch boys (5-0) took the top seeds. The boys No. 1 seed was determined by a coin flip between the Falcons and North Hall (3-0).
The tournament opens at 4 p.m. Friday at Johnson High School when North Hall (No. 4, 2-1) and West Hall (No. 5, 3-3) meet in girls action. The game was originally slated for that time Saturday, but was moved to avoid a conflict with the North Hall football game in the Class AAA semifinals.
First round games will continue at Johnson High on Saturday, followed by the first round of consolation games Tuesday.
The games will move to East Hall for the semifinals Friday, Dec. 14 and the finals Saturday, Dec. 15.
Tournament coordinator Ross Davis said that the teams involved will try to avoid any further conflict with North Hall’s football game, should the Trojans still be playing next weekend. He added that changing the day of Lanierland games is unlikely, but changing times of games could be an option.
