Prep softball: Jefferson rallies for three straight weekend wins

After a pair of losses Friday sent them to the Bronze Division in the South Gwinnett Classic softball tournament, Jefferson stormed back with three wins Saturday to win the bracket.

Saturday’s wins came against Northgate, the second-ranked team in Class AAAA, Class AAA Woodward Academy and Class AAAAA Shiloh.

Kara Perry led the way from the pitcher’s circle in four games, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.49 ERA and striking out 16. MiMi DuBose (.600 batting average, two RBIs) and Callie Holloway (.545 batting average, three RBIs) were the leaders for the Lady Dragons at the plate.

Class AA Jefferson lost 5-2 to Peachtree Ridge, the third-ranked team in Class AAAAA to start the weekend, who rallied late to take the win. Holloway, DuBose, Jennifer Brueshaber and Devin Staley registered hits for Jefferson.

Gilmer then took a 3-2 win over the Lady Dragons, despite a 2-for-3 effort from Brianna Caudell and six strong innings from Perry.

Jefferson opened Saturday with a 3-2 win over Northgate, highlighted by DuBose, who went 3-for-3. Perry pitched a complete game, striking out nine.

With Summer Bartek stepping into the pitcher’s circle for the next game against Woodward Academy, the Lady Dragons pounded out an 11-6 win behind Smith (2-for-4) and Stanley (2-for-3, three RBIs). Bartek got the win, giving up one earned run in 4Ã innings. She was also 2-for-3.

Jefferson closed the tournament with a 9-1 win over Shiloh.

Perry returned to take over the pitching duties, giving up one run in six innings of work. Holloway led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. DuBose (2-for-4), Caudell (2-for-4) and Erin Knight (2-for-3) also had mulitple-hit outings.

The Lady Dragons return to action at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when they travel to take on Commerce.
