Prep scoreboard: North Hall boys earn win at West Hall Invitational

The North Hall High boys cross country finished first in the West Hall Invitational on Tuesday at West Hall High School in Oakwood.

Nolan Clark finished second for the Trojans in 16 minutes, 47 seconds. Ty McCormack finished third with 16:55, Cody Barger and Brandon Lawson finished sixth and seventh respectively, both with 17:16.

West Hall finished second in boys’ race, with Andy Martin finishing fifth with a 17:12. Jimmy Gault finished eighth with a 17:39 and Keegan Kyle finished ninth with 17:44.

Gainesville finished third in the race, led by Aurelio Montano’s fourth-place finish (16:58). Max Angel of Lumpkin County finished 10th at 17:50.

Chestatee placed best among area teams in the girls race, finishing second. Kelsey Neukum finished fourth for the War Eagles (20:21), Kathryn Barnett finished fifth (21:24) and Cara Martin finished ninth with a 22:01.

Trice Sweet led third-place North Hall with a seventh-place finish (21:36). Liliana Cervantes led fifth-place West Hall with an eight place finish (21:39).

The next area meet is hosted by Chestatee at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 25.

SOFTBALL

West Hall 4, Lumpkin County 1


Hannah Derthick was 2-for-2 with a two-run single in the fourth inning that gave the Lady Spartans the lead on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Morgan Strickland and Miranda Miller each had RBI singles for West Hall (13-6, 7-1 Region 7-AAA).

West Hall visits Creekview at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Lumpkin County (12-8, 5-3 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Chestatee at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

White County 9, Chestatee 1

Stephanie Satterfield picked up her 10th win of the season with 10 strikeouts and only four hits allowed for the Lady Warriors on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Katie Medlock was 3-for-3 with two runs for White County (12-4, 6-2 Region 7-AAA). Lindsay Messmore was 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Krista Woody was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Callie McDonald added three hits.

White County plays host to East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Chestatee (2-20, 2-6 Region 7-AAA) visits Lumpkin County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall 6, Gilmer 0

Megan Rogers picked up the win for the Lady Trojans with 13 strikeouts and only two hits allowed while driving in an RBI on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Anna Bower was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for North Hall (11-6, 3-2 Region 7-AAA). Chelsea Clever had two RBIs and Hannah Stevens added two hits.

North Hall plays host to Pickens at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Buford 4, Blessed Trinity 0
Alysha Rudnik was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run, and three RBIs for Class AA’s top-ranked Lady Wolves on Tuesday in Buford.

Kallie Case doubled and scored two runs and Chelsie Thomas and Whitney Wolfe added hits for Buford (15-2, 3-0 Region 6-AA).

Buford visits Brookwood at 6 p.m. today in the Brookwood Invitational.

North Oconee 4, Jefferson 1

Kris Reynolds pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters for the Lady Dragons on Tuesday in Jefferson.

Brittany Smith, Jennifer Brueshaber, Brooke Whelchel, Devin Stanley and Erin Knight each had a hit for Jefferson (12-9, 2-2 Region 8-AA)

Jefferson visits Dawson County at 6 p.m. Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Johnson wins two on the road

The Lady Knights earned two region wins on the road against Pickens (25-13, 25-12) and North Hall (25-19, 24-26, 25-19) on Tuesday in Jasper.

Jordan Gustavel had 18 kills and six aces for Johnson (12-6, 3-1 Area 7-AAA). Katie Clark had four kills, 10 aces and four blocks. Shelley Farley had 17 assists and eight digs against North Hall and Laura Gazaway added 10 digs against Pickens.

The Lady Trojans (12-9, 4-1 Area 7-AAA) also defeated Pickens (26-24, 25-21). Kelsey Marlatt had 14 digs and five aces and Anna Marchman added five kills.

Johnson visits West Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday against West Hall, East Hall and Gilmer. North Hall visits West Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday against West Hall and South Forsyth.

Chestatee tops Gilmer on the road

The Lady War Eagles picked up a region win against Gilmer (25-23, 12-25, 25-17) on Tuesday in Ellijay.

Alura Roe had nine kills for the Chestatee (11-5, 2-2 Region 7-AAA). Madison Yates had three kills and two blocks, Charlotte Hill had three aces and 10 assists, Jessica Porter had one kills and 20 digs and Ali Burnette added three kills.

Chestatee visits Buford at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Lakeview Academy splits two at home

The Lady Lions split home matches with a win against Buford (27-25, 18-25, 25-16) and a loss against Greater Atlanta Christian (25-11, 25-8) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Louisa Jacobs had nine kills and three aces for Lakeview (7-10, 4-3 Area 8-AA/A). Liz Clark five kills, Megan Rochester had four kills, Emilie Norton had 20 assists and Heather Styles added three aces for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview visits Jefferson at 5 p.m. Thursday against Jefferson and Prince Avenue Christian. Buford (9-6, 1-0 Area 4-A/AA) plays host to Chestatee and Jackson County at 5 p.m. Thursday.
