High school tennis: North Hall girls top Cook, advance to state quarterfinals

The North Hall girls tennis team topped Cook 4-1 in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs Monday in Adel, ensuring a quarterfinal matchup against Marist in Atlanta.

Christen Barnes and Lauren Davis earned wins in the singles matches, while the doubles teams of Courtney Barnes/MaKenzie Bryant and Annalise Gregory/Sydney Patterson picked up victories.

The time and date for the North Hall/Marist matchup is to be decided.

This is the second year in a row that North Hall will play in the state quarterfinals. Last year was the first time the North Hall girls tennis program had reached the final eight.

“It’s the heart of this team,” said North Hall coach Patricia Zaudtke. “We don’t have a wealth of experience, but this lineup of girls have a heck of a lot of heart.”

COLUMBUS 4, FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 0: Flowery Branch boys tennis team fell to Columbus Monday afternoon in the second round of Class AAAAA tournament at Lakebottom Park in Columbus.

Jacob Yates defeated Phillip Correa (6-2, 6-0) and Ford Cummings topped Ryan Keral (6-3, 6-1) in the singles matches.
Flowery Branch’s two doubles teams also fell to the Blue Devils.

BUFORD GIRLS 3, EAGLES LANDING 0: The Buford girls tennis team booked its spot in the quarterfinals of the Class AAAA playoffs with a sweep of Eagles Landing on Monday.

Kenzie Walters won at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0), Tamia Wayne/Emma Place won at No. 2 doubles (6-1, 6-0) and Maria Jose Ferreyros won at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0).

The Lady Wolves visit Cartersville in the third round. Time and date is to be determined.
