High School Scoreboard: Undefeated Buford picks up volleyball wins over Johns Creek, East Coweta

The Buford volleyball team remained undefeated Thursday following a pair of victories at Johns Creek High School. Buford (16-0) defeated Johns Creek 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 and earned a 25-14, 25-20 win over East Coweta later in the night.

Tatum Shipes led the way against Johns Creek with 16 kills, Gabby Curry added 11 kills and 20 digs, and Morgan Mitchell had 29 assists. Curry turned in 10 digs against East Coweta, while Shipes had 10 kills. Buford returns to action Thursday with home matchups against Lambert and Dunwoody.

GAINESVILLE SPLITS: The Lady Red Elephants improved to 14-5 by defeating Johnson 25-21, 25-4 following a 21-25, 25-20, 21-25 loss to Class AAAAAA No. 10 Mill Creek on Thursday. Tanai Watson led Gainesville with 19 kills, three aces and nine digs. Sydney King added 13 digs and two kills. Savannah Roys led Gainesville with 39 assists and added nine digs.

Gainesville will travel to Lakeview Academy on Thursday for a tri-match against the Lions and Habersham Central.

JEFFERSON WINS TWO: The Dragons improved their record to 20-4 with road wins Thursday over Habersham Central and Madison County. Jefferson defeated Habersham 25-12, 25-23 and beat Madison County 25-13, 25-12.

Abby Wood led Jefferson with 12 kills and added 16 digs. Bre Arbenas and Lindsey Nielsen added 11 kills apiece, while Madison Corbett posted a team-high 23 assists and Olivia Pryzbysz turned in a team-high 19 digs. Jefferson hosts Chestatee and Lakeview Academy on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

JOHNSON DROPS PAIR: The Knights suffered a 17-25, 12-25 loss to Mill Creek on Thursday and a 21-25, 4-25 defeat at the hands of Gainesville. Grace Eidson led Johnson 3-17, 1-1 area) with five kills, five assists, six digs and three blocks.

Claire Williams had four kills and Julia Bower added three assists and four digs. The Knights return to action Thursday with a home matchup against Stephens County and East Hall.

WHITE COUNTY SPLITS PAIR OF MATCHES: The Warriors topped Chestatee, but fell to Lakeview Academy Thursday evening in a tri-match. White County defeated the War Eagles 25-19, 25-18, but fell to the Lions 9-25, 21-25.
White County combined for 18 kills in both matches.

Softball

CHESTATEE 10, MONROE AREA 2 (6 INNINGS): Becca Eddins had four strikeouts and picked up the win in the circle for the War Eagles (9-10, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA) Thursday. She also helped herself with a pair of hits and runs scored.

Keniana Wesley went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Hannah Jones went 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBIs, and Abby Xander went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Chestatee hosts Mountain View at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

BANKS COUNTY 8, LUMPKIN COUNTY 1: Mallory Parson tallied 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the circle for Banks County. The Leopards finished with eight hits, including two apiece from Taylor Parson (2 for 3) and freshman Jaycie Bowen (2 for 4, 3 RBIs).

The Lady Leopards also got hits from senior Morgan Rylee and freshmen Taylor Speed and Abby Ledford. Rylee scored three runs. Banks County improves to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in Region 7-AAA. The Leopards will travel to Franklin County on Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH 15, DISCOVERY 0 (3 INNINGS): Freshman Alyssa Kimbrell picked up the win in the circle for the Falcons. Flowery Branch (8-6, 4-1 Region 8-AAAAA) will host Lanier on Tuesday.
