Two women were found fatally shot Wednesday, Feb. 24, and another man has been taken for treatment for serious injuries after a shooting in East Hall, according to authorities.

High School Scoreboard: Tatum Shipes fires 17 kills as Buford volleyball sweeps tri-match

Tatum Shipes led the attack with 17 kills for defending Class 5A state champion Buford (2-0) as it opened the season with wins against Mill Creek (25-22, 25-15) and Hebron Christian Academy (25-15, 25-20) on Thursday in Dacula.

Avery Cason racked up nine kills with five blocks for the Lady Wolves, while teammate Stella Alverson finished with 29 assists against the Lady Lions.

Buford plays St. Pius X and Whitewater at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Atlanta.

EAST HALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Niyah Rucker posted 29 kills, four aces, 10 digs, one assist and five blocks in East Hall’s wins against Habersham Central (23-25, 25-13, 25-19) and Chestatee (25-17, 23-25, 25-21) in Gainesville.

Savannah Thellman had 10 kills, four digs with 42 assists for the Lady Vikings, while teammate Holly Poole added 14 kills, five aces, six assists and 17 digs.

Tessa Rider (eight kills, five aces and 13 digs), Summer Lindsey (two aces, four assists, 41 digs), Janelly Lara (three kills, four aces, three assists and 13 digs) and Macy Thomas (four kills, two blocks) were others to contribute for the Lady Vikings.

East Hall visits White County at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Cleveland.

WEST HALL SPLITS WITH DAWSON COUNTY AND LAKEVIEW ACADEMY: West Hall’s (5-5) Ruby Guerrero had five kills as the Lady Spartans won in straight sets against Dawson County (25-17, 25-13) and dropped a match to Lakeview Academy (25-22, 25-13) in Dawsonville.

Cadie Shirley scored with three service aces for West Hall, while Kinsey Wilson had five blocks. Taylor Brown contributed 11 digs for the Lady Spartans.

West Hall plays Forsyth Central at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Cumming.

NORTH HALL SPLITS WITH WEST FORSYTH AND WINDER-BARROW: Lady Trojans’ (2-2) Melissa DeVerter posted 17 kills, 11 blocks, three aces and 15 digs as the Lady Trojans defeated Winder Barrow in straight sets (29-27, 25-13) after falling in three sets against West Forsyth (25-20, 24-26, 20-25).

Lily Paschall racked up 42 assists, 17 digs and two kills for North Hall, while teammate Autumn Tucker had 13 kills, two blocks and 11 digs.

Caroline Brady totaled six kills, 11 digs and a block for North Hall. Savannah Miller had 10 kills to go with a block for the Lady Trojans.

Teammate Lena Strickland had 16 digs and two aces for North Hall as well. Maci Gillespie finished the night with 16 digs and an assist while teammate Madison Brock ended the night with four kills, three aces and seven digs.

North Hall visits Johnson at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Gainesville.

SOFTBALL

Aashayah White hit a grand slam for West Hall in a 10-5 loss to Gainesville on Thursday in Gainesville.

Lindsey Ledford pitched seven innings, allowed six hits and threw for four strikeouts for Gainesville. Sarah Barrett had three RBIs, while teammate Alani Mydell drove in two runs for the Lady Red Elephants.

Gainesville plays George Walton at 4:45 p.m. on Monday in Gainesville.
