Tatum Shipes led the attack with 17 kills for defending Class 5A state champion Buford (2-0) as it opened the season with wins against Mill Creek (25-22, 25-15) and Hebron Christian Academy (25-15, 25-20) on Thursday in Dacula. Avery Cason racked up nine kills with five blocks for the Lady Wolves, while teammate Stella Alverson finished with 29 assists against the Lady Lions. Buford plays St. Pius X and Whitewater at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Atlanta.
