The Riverside Military track and field team turned out a first-place showing at the Gary Mathews Invitational on Saturday at Oglethorpe County High.
The Eagles picked up 181 points, finishing ahead of Elbert County (145). Oglethorpe County posted 122 points, Franklin County had 104 and Athens Christian notched 65.
Isaac Teasley won the 400-meter dash and anchored Riverside Military’s first-place 1600-meter relay team. He also set a person record in the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 4 inches, which was good enough for silver.
Daniel Bennett-Blake won the high jump (5-10), while James Brubeck finished first in the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet. The Eagles took first and second place in the 1600-meter run as Leland Breskow completed the race in 5:11:01 and Brent Lowery clocked in at 5:12:46.
Lowery also won the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:11:19.
Riverside Military will compete in the Region 8-A meet beginning with field events and preliminary track events at 10 a.m. Thursday at Athens Academy. The finals for the field events are slated for 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Lakeview Academy baseball team pounded out 14 hits in a 13-7 win Saturday at Lumpkin County.
Josh Henderson went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Lions, while teammate Jordan Thomas was 3 for 4 with a pair of runs driven in. Lakeview Academy’s Bailey Whitlock plated four runs as part of his 2 for 4 day at the dish, and Brannon Browner scored four runs on top of going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Sam Stewart, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI, earned the win by tossing three scoreless relief innings.
The Lakeview Academy boys soccer team lost to Region 8-A opponent Riverside Military 5-0 on Friday night.
The game was tied at halftime before the Lions (6-8, 3-3 region) surrendered five second-half goals. Lakeview Academy hosts Discovery on Tuesday.
