Lumpkin County boys golf takes down Dawson County

Aaron George carded a 38 to lead the Lumpkin County boys golf team (168) to a victory over Dawson County (186) on Thursday at the Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville. Austin Booker (39), Joseph Jarrard (44) and Rhett String (47) also scored for Lumpkin County, which faces North Forsyth and Johnson at 4 p.m. Monday at the Hampton Golf Course in Cumming. Wesley Bearden’s 43 led Dawson County, which faces Fannin County at 4 p.m. Monday at the Chestatee Golf Course.

LUMPKIN COUNTY GIRLS 105, DAWSON COUNTY 108:
Morgan Wood shot a 52 and Taylor Gooch carded a 53 for the Lady Indians on Thursday at the Chestatee Golf Course. Lumpkin County plays Franklin County at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega. Taylor Hasbroucks (53) and Rachel Dotson (55) led Dawson County, which faces Fannin County at 4 p.m. Monday at the Chestatee Golf Course.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 161, BUFORD 179: Garhett Gentry’s 39 and Colby Stone’s 40 led the Falcons to the win Thursday at the Reunion Golf Course in Hoschton. Ryan Tewksbury and Sean McKnight each fired a 41 to round out the scoring for Flowery Branch, which faces Winder-Barrow at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at Chateau Elan. Lucas Thompson (43) and Logan Nance (44) led Buford, which faces Greater Atlanta Christian at 3:30 p.m. Monday at TPC Sugarloaf.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN BOYS 162, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 200: Matt Askounis fired a 48 in the loss Thursday at Chicopee Woods. The Lions play Banks County at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Scales Creek Country Club.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 68, SAINT PIUS X 85:
LeAnn Noble’s 33 and Morgan Reece’s 35 combined to earn the win Thursday at Chattahoochee Golf Course. Gainesville plays White County at 4 p.m. Monday at Mossy Creek.

JOHNSON 106, WHITE COUNTY 106:
Lauren Smith and Keely Lefevre each carded a 53 to lead the Lady Knights to the tie Thursday at Royal Lakes. Taylor Young (55) and Carlie Doster (58) also scored for Johnson. Kathryn Whitaker’s 50 earned low-medalist honors for White County, which faces Gainesville at 4 p.m. Monday at Mossy Creek.

Tennis

CHESTATEE BOYS 3, NORTH HALL 2: Jonathan Cook and Jeremiah Reed won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for Chestatee (2-2) on Thursday at North Hall. At No. 1 doubles, Pearce Gruenenfelder and Blaine Brown secured the win for the War Eagles. For North Hall, Jesse Morris won at No. 3 singles and Reed Partrick and Lucas Martin won at No. 2 doubles.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 4, NORTH HALL 1: Singles players Fernanda Arcaraz, Tiffani Poole and Lily Kiang and the doubles team of Emily Elder and Sarah Beth Tankersley won in straight sets on Thursday for Chestatee. The team of Katie Smith and Ava Voss recorded the only win for North Hall.

WEST HALL BOYS 4, OCONEE COUNTY 1:
With straight set wins from singles players Max Wilson and Connor McFall and the doubles team of Tatum Scruggs/Min Him, the Spartans won Thursday at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center. West Hall (9-0, 5-0 Region 8B-AAA) visits Monroe Area at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 5, LANIER 0: Morgan Mercer, Brinkley Frankum and the teams of Kate Callahan/Lauren Carter and Mady Wuest/Suzanne Smith won in straight sets on Thursday in Gainesville. The Lady Red Elephants host Johnson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 4, LANIER 1: Singles player Connor McMorrow and the doubles teams of Jake Maddox/Austinn Miller and Bailey Geyer/Charles Calkins won in straight games Thursday in Gainesville. The Red Elephants will participate in the South Side Slam at the Clayton County Tennis Center beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 4, MADISON COUNTY 1: Led by straight-set singles wins from Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory and Morgan Reed, Flowery Branch won Thursday at home. The Lady Falcons (7-1) visit Winder-Barrow at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON BOYS 4, WALNUT GROVE 1: Carlos Flores and Casey Tanner won doubles matches in straight sets Thursday for the Knights (4-3, 3-2 Region 8B-AAA), who face Gainesville at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Longview Park.

NORTH FORSYTH GIRLS 4, GAINESVILLE 1: The doubles team of Mady Wuest and Connor English won the only match for the Lady Red Elephants on Wednesday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 4, FORSYTH CENTRAL 1:
Cady Nix, Maggie Turner and Harlee Robson won singles in straight sets Wednesday in Cumming.

Mason Pope hit a home run and drove in three RBIs in the loss Thursday in Gainesville. Riverside Military visits Commerce at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

ELBERT COUNTY 7, JEFFERSON 2: Jason Demos went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss Wednesday in Jefferson. The Dragons (1-2, 0-1 Region 8-AA) visits North Oconee at 5:55 p.m. Friday.
