East Hall soccer secures first place

Saul Lopez led East Hall (8-1-1, 4-0 Region 8-AA North) with two goals and three assists in a 10-0 win against Union County on Thursday night in Gainesville. With the win, the Vikings have secured first place in Region 8-AA North. Julio Avila, Jason Mendoza and Edgar Cerrano each added two goals for the Vikings, and Enrique Valencia and Adolfo Adame each finished with one goal.

The Vikings visit Rabun County at 7 p.m. on April 9 in Tiger.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 5, EAST HALL 0: The Lady Vikings (2-8, 1-3 Region 8-AA North) visit Rabun County at 5 p.m. April 9 in Tiger. East Hall can qualify for the region tournament with a win over Rabun County.

JOHNSON BOYS 2, OCONEE COUNTY 1: Jonathan Mendoza and Isreal Azuara each scored for the Knights (9-1-2, 6-1 Region 8-AAA South) Thursday night in Watkinsville. Josh Martin recorded 10 saves in goal for Johnson.

The Knights host Stephens County on April 10.

WEST HALL BOYS 3, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0: Alejandro Damora, Samuel Coto and Edgar Jaimes each scored goals for the Spartans (7-5-1, 5-3 Region 8-AAA South) on Thursday night in Oakwood.

Goalkeepers Frankie Vazquez and Cesar Marseneo combined in the shutout for West Hall.

The Spartans host Buford on April 10.

WEST HALL GIRLS 10, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0: Katie Forrester and Gabrielle Ligas each scored two goals for the Lady Spartans on Thursday night in Oakwood. Alyssa Hall, Yohet Terrones, Rachel Kline, Selena Campa, Cristen Newstron and Idalia Avelar each added one goal for West Hall.

Goalkeepers Alex Smith and Kylie Beaman combined in the shutout for the Lady Spartans.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 7, SOCIAL CIRCLE 3: Jarrett Huge hit a three-run home run for the Lions (10-5, 7-4 Region 8-A) on Thursday night in Gainesville. Harrison Styles earned the win for Lakeview Academy and had a solo home run. Jeremiah Moore got the save for the Lions.

Lakeview Academy visits Riverside Military Academy at 4:30 p.m. today.


GAINESVILLE GIRLS 81, WEST HALL 96, WHITE COUNTY 97: Morgan Reece led the Lady Elephants with a 40, and Madeline Harr finished with a 41 on Thursday afternoon at Chattahoochee Golf Club.

Malorie Smith led the Lady Spartans with a 44.

Brittan Slaton shot a 46 for the Lady Warriors.

Gainesville visits Lambert on April 14 in Cumming.


FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, APALACHEE 0: Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory and Nicole Morris each recorded wins for the Lady Falcons (15-1, 10-0 Region 8-AAAA) on Thursday afternoon.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 4, APALACHEE 0: A.J. Morris recorded a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles for the Falcons (11-4, 8-2 Region 8-AAAA) on Thursday afternoon in Flowery Branch. Doubles duo, Anthony Monacella and Christopher Hedden recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch hosts North Hall on April 10.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 4, WEST HALL 1: Brinkley Frankum recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Lady Red Elephants on Thursday afternoon. Georgia Summer added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for Gainesville, Martha McKinnon finished 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, No. 2 doubles duo Mandy Wuest and Lauren Carter won 6-2, 6-0.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 3, WEST HALL 2: Singles players Connor McMorrow, Austin Miller and Jackson Goble each recorded wins for the Red Elephants on Thursday afternoon.

After losing the first set, Min Kim and Sam Pinson came back to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 for the Spartans.
