Chestatee boys tennis earns No. 2 seed

The Chestatee boys tennis team earned its eighth-straight subregion win Thursday, defeating Franklin County 3-2. With the win, the War Eagles earn the No. 2 seed from Region 8A-AAA going into the region tournament April 13-14 at Alberta Banks Park. Jonathon Cook (11-1, 9-1 Region 8A-AAA) won at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2), while the team of Pearce Gruenenfelder/Blaine Brown (11-1, 10-0) won at No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-2). Jeremy Atkins/Casey Campbell won in straight sets at No. 2 doubles (6-3, 6-0) to secure the win for Chestatee.

FRANKLIN COUNTY GIRLS 3, CHESTATEE 2: The teams of Emily Elder/Sarah Beth Tankersley (11-1, 9-1 Region 8A-AAA) and Carly Dale/Lauren McNitt won in straight sets Thursday in the loss.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 5, MONROE AREA 0: Morgan Mercer, Brinkley Frankum and Martha McKinnon swept singles in straight sets Thursday in Gainesville. The teams of Kate Callahan/Lauren Carter and Mady Wuest/Suzanne Smith swept doubles, also in straight sets, for Gainesville (7-3 Region 8B-AAA), which visits Lanier at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, WINDER-BARROW 0: Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory, Morgan Reed and the teams of Dani Taylor/Durden Smith and Madison Smith/Bekki Benton each won in straight sets Thursday in Flowery Branch. The Lady Falcons (14-1, 8-0 Region 8-AAAA) host Mountain View at 4 p.m. today.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 4, WINDER-BARROW 1: Cris Dilidili, A.J. Morris and the team of Isaac Black/Christopher Hedden won in straight sets Thursday in Flowery Branch. The Falcons (10-4, 7-1 Region 8-AAAA) host Mountain View at 4 p.m. today.

OCONEE COUNTY BOYS 5, JOHNSON 0: The Knights lost in straight sets Thursday in Oakwood. Johnson (6-9, 5-5 Region 8B-AAA) hosts Walnut Grove at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

BUFORD BOYS 5, WEST HALL 0: Colby West, Rob Hunter and the team of Nicholas Becker/Matthew Gates won in straight sets for the Wolves on Thursday in Oakwood. Buford visits Franklin County, and West Hall (14-2) visits Oconee County, at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Baseball

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 7, SOCIAL CIRCLE 6: The Lions scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 7-6 win Thursday in Gainesville. Dallas Deavers went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Spencer Sorrells added two RBIs on one hit. Sorrells (2-0) also earned the win, throwing the final 2 1/3 innings. Taylor Simpson (2-for-4) added two runs scored and an RBI for Lakeview (5-7, 3-4 Region 8-A), which hosts Athens Academy at 4:30 p.m. today.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 6, TALLULAH FALLS 5: The Eagles earned their third win in a row Thursday in Gainesville. Jacob Harrison went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead Riverside, which hosts Social Circle at 5:30 p.m. today.

JEFFERSON 3, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 2: The Dragons (5-6, 4-5 Region 8-AA) scored twice in the fourth and once in the sixth to earn the win Thursday in Lexington. Max Ford earned the win on the mound, throwing 4 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, while Drew Carson, Jesse Tallent and Nathan Carson each added an RBI. Jefferson hosts East Jackson at 5:55 p.m. today.

NORTH HALL 19, WALNUT GROVE 13 (WEDNESDAY): Andrew Smith hit two home runs with five RBIs on 3-for-4 hitting to lead the Trojans to the win in Loganville. Chris Stevens earned the win, while going 2-for-3 with four RBIs at the plate for North Hall (9-2, 8-1 Region 8-AAA), which hosts Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. today.

Golf

LUMPKIN COUNTY BOYS FINISH SECOND, JOHNSON THIRD IN BORDER WAR: Led by Aaron George's 39, the Indians carded a final round 180 to give them a three-day total of 508 and second place in the Border War Challenge on Thursday at the Chicopee Woods Golf Course. North Forsyth placed first with a 491 total, while Johnson was third at 548. Luke James carded a final round 35 to lead Johnson to a final-day total of 167. Lumpkin County plays in the Big Red Shootout at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS WIN TRI-MATCH: Meg Callahan (41) and Morgan Reece (43) led the Lady Red Elephants to the win over West Hall (90) and Habersham Central (96) Thursday at Royal Lakes. Malorie Smith's 44 and Olivia Davis' 46 led West Hall and Alex Oren (47) and Veronika Brooks (49) carded for Habersham Central. All three teams play in the Spartan Lanier Challenge, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Legacy on Lanier Golf Course.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 198, EAST HALL 249: Chris Gay (43) and Matt Askounis (49) led the Lions to the win Thursday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course, where they will face Athens Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Soccer

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN BOYS 4, LOGANVILLE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3: Clay Cox scored two goals to lead the Chargers (3-5) to the win Thursday at Allen Creek. Taylor Collins and Mancini Morales each scored one goal for North Georgia, which faces Faith Christian Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allen Creek.
