The Gainesville High girls tennis team grabbed the title in the Duluth Wildcat Invitational with wins against Duluth and South Forsyth on Saturday at the Epic Center in Duluth.
In a 5-0 win against Duluth, Brinkley Frankum, Georgia Summer and Katherine Wright all won in singles for Gainesville. Morgan Mercer/Sally Callahan and Martha McKinnon/Katherine Anderson won in doubles. Frankum, Summer and Wright also all won in singles action in a 4-1 win against South Forsyth. The doubles pairing of Mercer/Callahan also won its match.
On Friday, Gainesville topped Flowery Branch 4-1 behind wins in singles play from Frankum and Summer. Mercer/Lauren Carter and McKinnon/Anderson also earned wins for the Lady Red Elephants.
NORTH HALL GIRLS 3, CALHOUN 2: Natalie Oxley and Tricia Dial won singles matches, leading the Lady Trojans to victory in the Granger Invitational on Saturday in LaGrange. The pairing of Mary Clare Patterson/Karleigh Dills won in doubles play for the Lady Trojans.
NORTH HALL GIRLS 4, HOLY INNOCENTS 1: Kelsey McCray and Dial both won singles matches in the Granger Invitational. North Hall’s doubles teams consisting of Hannah Gibson/Kaitlyn Smith and Courtney Barnes/McKay Higginbotham also picked up victories.
North Hall finished the tournament second out of 14 teams in its division. The Lady Trojans host West Hall on Tuesday.
NORTH HALL BOYS 5, HARRIS COUNTY 0: Jeffery Kiser, Jackson Davis and Matt Booth all picked up wins in singles play of the Granger Invitational on Saturday in LaGrange. Drew Eidson/Lucas Martin and Dalton Patterson/Matthew Chewning won doubles matches for the Trojans (7-2).
MADISON COUNTY BOYS 4, NORTH HALL 1: Eidson and Martin picked up a win in doubles play for the Trojans, their only win of the match.
NORTH HALL BOYS 4, EAGLES LANDING 1: Davis and Booth won in singles, while Eidson/Martin and Paxton Gillespie/Dawson Smith both won in doubles play for North Hall. The Trojans host West Hall on Tuesday in Gainesville.
WEST HALL BOYS 4, SOUTH FORSYTH 1 (Friday): The Spartans swept doubles with victories from Grayson Kyle/Min Kim and Kip O’Kelly/Connor Kirkland on Friday at the Epic Center in Duluth. At No. 2 singles, Max Wilson won for West Hall, while Austin Dyer won at No. 3 singles.
JACKSON COUNTY 3, EASTSIDE 2: Nick Corso had a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday in Jefferson. Joel Ellis scored the tieing run earlier in the inning for the Panthers (6-5). Jase Latty pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief without allowing a run.
JEFFERSON 6, JACKSON COUNTY 3: For Jackson County, Ellis finished 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Corso and Jacob Banks each added a double for the Panthers. Jeremy Cook pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief and allowed just one run.
Jackson County hosts Cedar Shoals at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Jefferson.
EAST HALL 11, FANNIN COUNTY 10 (Friday): Jacob Cash’s third hit of the game was a walk-off single in the seventh inning to secure the come-from-behind victory on Friday in Gainesville. Cash reached base four times, including singles in the first and second inning. Garrett Bishop earned the win for the Vikings, pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief without allowing a run.
East Hall visits Fannin County at 5:55 p.m. on Monday in Blue Ridge.
CHESTATEE GIRLS 6, WALNUT GROVE 1: Alexis Rebollar scored twice on a breakaway, leading the No. 9 Lady War Eagles (7-2, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA) to victory on Friday in Walnut Grove. Jacelin Sanchez scored the equalizer early in the first half for Chestatee. Heydi Acosta, Sadie Foote and Abbie Cliché each scored in the second half for the Lady War Eagles. Chestatee visits Jackson County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Jefferson.
Hunter Young carded a 76 for the North Hall boys and Clay Hoffman finished with a 79 in the Gwinnett Open on Saturday at The Chimneys Course in Winder.
Gabe McConnell carded a 44 for the Lakeview Academy boys and Kevin Baldwin added a 47 in a win against Riverside Military on Friday.
