Lakeview Academy baseball tops East Hall 18-7

Dallas Deavers went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and the Lakeview Academy baseball team defeated East Hall 18-7 Tuesday at East Hall. Logan Jones and Taylor Simpson each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Lakeview (1-2), which visits Saint Francis at 4:30 p.m. today. East Hall hosts Habersham Central at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON 8, BANKS COUNTY 7:
A.J. Benefield earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts and added two RBIs from the plate in the win Tuesday in Gainesville. Chris White and Logan Pethel each scored two runs and stole one base for Johnson (1-1), which visits West Hall at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Golf

LUMPKIN COUNTY BOYS LEAD FIRST ROUND:
Led by a 4-under 32 from senior Aaron George, The Times’ 2010 Area Golfer of the Year, the Indians carded a 159 to lead North Forsyth’s 169 and Johnson’s 175 at Achasta Golf Course on Tuesday in Dahlonega in the first of three matches that the three schools will play this season. Austin Booker (39), Rhett Stringer (43) and Joseph Jarrard (45) recorded scores for Lumpkin County, which faces Dawson County at 4 p.m. Thursday at Chestatee Golf Course. Carter Cagle’s 38 and Luke James’ 40 led Johnson, which will play White County at 4 p.m. Thursday at Royal Lakes Golf Course. Lumpkin County, North Forsyth and Johnson will come together for round two of the cumulatively-scored tournament at Hampton Golf Course in Cumming on March 7.

WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 89, NORTH HALL 103:
Kathryn Whitaker carded a 6-over-par 40 to lead the Lady Warriors on Tuesday at Mossy Creek Golf Course in Cleveland. Jodi Samples (49), Brittan Slaton (52) and Candler Kimsey (53) recorded scores for White County, which faces Johnson at 4 p.m. Thursday at Royal Lakes Golf Course. Jessie Edge was the low scorer for North Hall with a 49.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 83, WEST HALL 90, LUMPKIN COUNTY 97:
Morgan Reece (40) and Meg Callahan (43) led the Lady Red Elephants to the 8-hole win Tuesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Gainesville plays Saint Pius X at 4 p.m. Thursday in Duluth. Olivia Davis (44) and Malorie Smith (46) were the low scorers for West Hall. Morgan Wood shot a 46 and Taylor Gooch a 51 for Lumpkin County, which faces Dawson County at 4 p.m. Thursday at Chestatee Golf Course.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 157, WEST HALL 205:
Colby Stone, Alex Gossett and Kameron Williams each carded a 39 on Tuesday as the Falcons won on the Mill Course of Chicopee Woods. Ryan Tweksbury and Garhett Gentry tied for fourth with a score of 40 for Flowery Branch, which faces Buford at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Reunion Golf Course in Braselton. Justin Harkleroad and Kip O’Kelley each carded a 47 to lead West Hall.

WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 2, GAINESVILLE 1: Kaitlyn Hooper scored both goals for the Lady Warriors (5-0, 3-0 Region 8-AAA) Tuesday in Cleveland. White County opens play in the Fannin County tournament against Murray County at noon Saturday in Blue Ridge.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 3, DAWSON COUNTY 1:
Alexis Rebollar, Lauren Wassel and Kelsey Neukum each scored a goal for the Lady War Eagles (3-1) on Tuesday in Gainesville. Chestatee hosts Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. March 8. Amanda Sheriff scored for Dawson County, which hosts Stephens County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

CHESTATEE BOYS 1, DAWSON COUNTY 0: Leo Molina scored the only goal of the game and Michael Herrin earned the shutout in goal for Chestatee (3-3, 1-1 Region 8-AAA), which visits Apalachee at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

BUFORD GIRLS 6, WEST HALL 1: Ceeley Coker scored three goals and Lindsey White added two in the win Tuesday for Buford (4-1). Tara Dambach recorded three assists with one goal for the Lady Wolves, who visit Mountain View at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

CHESTATEE BOYS 5, WHITE COUNTY 0: Jonathan Cook, Jeremiah Reed and Ben Hassler won singles matches for the War Eagles in straight sets on Tuesday. The War Eagles visit North Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday.

WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 3, CHESTATEE 2:
The Lady Warriors swept singles in the win Tuesday. Sarah Beth Cummins, Hannah Kidd and Taylor Freeman each earn victories for White County. The doubles teams of Emily Elder/Sarah Beth Tankersley and Carly Dale/Lauren McNitt won for Chestatee, which visits North Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday.

OCONEE COUNTY BOYS 5, JOHNSON 0:
The Knights (3-2, 2-2 Region 8B-AAA) lost in straight sets Tuesday and face Forsyth Central at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Central Park.

OCONEE COUNTY GIRLS 3, JOHNSON 2: Harlee Robson and the team of Carlyn Ivey/Emma Rowlett earned wins for Johnson on Tuesday. The Lady Knights face Forsyth Central at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Central Park.
