High school scoreboard: Lakeview falls as region's best clash

The Lakeview Academy boys basketball team lost its bid for a share of the Region 8-A lead with a 85-74 loss to Athens Christian on Friday in Athens.

The Lions (14-7, 10-2 Region 8-A) needed a win to move into a tie with the Eagles for first place in the region. Both of their region losses have been to Athens Christian.

Lakeview had a three-point lead at halftime, but the Eagles rallied with 26 points in the third quarter and another 25 in the fourth.

The loss snaps Lakeview’s nine-game winning streak.

Tyler Ward led the Lions with 22 points. Haughton Carswell scored 15 points and Daniel Olvera had 13 points.

Six players scored in double figures for Athens Christian, led by Raymond Higgs’ 24 points.

Lakeview plays host to Commerce at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

East Hall boys 64, Johnson 51

Four players scored in double figures for the Vikings, led by Dustin Duckworth’s 15 points Friday in Oakwood.

Charles Perry scored 13 points, Kymmon Woods scored 11 points and Chaz Cheeks added 10 points for East Hall (8-10, 2-4 Region 7B-AAA)

Grant Cagle led Johnson with 15 points. Michael Bond added 10 points for the Knights (10-8, 2-4).

East Hall plays host to Lumpkin County at 7:30 tonight. Johnson plays host to Creekview at 7:30 tonight.

East Hall girls 66, Johnson 32

Kayneshia Maddox scored 12 points and Symone Hampton and Jasmine Jenkins each added 11 points as the Lady Vikings picked up their fourth straight win Friday at East Hall.

Caitlin Sloan led Johnson with nine points.

East Hall (13-6, 5-1 Region 7B-AAA) plays host to Lumpkin County at 6 tonight. Johnson (0-13, 0-5 Region) plays host to Creekview at 6 tonight.

Riverside Military boys 49, Dawson County 47 OT

With the score tied at 44 at the end of regulation, the Eagles edged Dawson County 5-3 in overtime to stay unbeaten in subregion play Friday in Gainesvlle.

Dylen Setzekorn led Riverside (7-6, 5-0 Region 8A-AA) with 16 points. Richard Tribble added 11 points.

Caleb Holbrook scored 13 points for Dawson County (11-8, 5-4). Blyth Chester added 12 points and Seth Stowers scored 11.

Riverside visits Union County at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Dawson County plays host to North Forsyth at 8 tonight.

Creekview girls 53, Lumpkin County 42

Ashley Brown scored 15 points and had nine rebounds and Cara Malone added 12 points for the Lady Indians on Friday in Canton.

Lumpkin County (3-18, 1-7 Region 7A-AAA) visits East Hall at 6 tonight.

Buford girls 68, Westminster 26

The Lady Wolves outscored Westminster 24-6 in the first quarter to secure a win early on Friday in Buford.

Blanche Alverson led 12 different Buford (17-1, 9-0 Region 6-AA) scorers with 14 points.

Buford plays host to Wesleyan in a battle of two top-ranked opponents at 6 tonight.

Jefferson girls 62, Commerce 20

With a 20-point lead at halftime, the Lady Dragons cruised to a win against their county rival Friday in Commerce.

Skylar Evanson led Jefferson (7-12) with nine points. Commerce (6-9) was led by Skylar Beasley’s six points.

Jefferson plays host to Dawson County at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Commerce visits Lakeview Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Jefferson boys 52, Commerce 39

Darius Minor scored 13 points and Hoytez Damons added 10 points as the Dragons extended their winning streak to eight games Friday in Commerce.

Cameron Billings led Commerce with 12 points.

Jefferson (17-3) plays host to Dawson County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Commerce (8-8) visits Lakeview Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

White County boys 70, Gilmer 33

The Warriors won back-to-back games for the first time this season Friday in Cleveland.

Ashely Lowery led White County (6-14, 4-5 Region 7A-AAA) with 22 points. Tyler Dotson added 13 points.

White County visits Lumpkin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
