High school scoreboard: Knights hold off Flowery Branch

The Johnson High boys basketball team picked up a subregion win by edging Flowery Branch 55-51 on Tuesday in Oakwood.

The Knights (12-11, 4-5 Region 7B-AAA) took a 19-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but saw the lead slip to only four by halftime. They countered with a 21-point third quarter.

With the win, Johnson moves into a tie with East Hall for third place in the Region 7B-AAA.

Devaris Finch led the Knights with 17 points. Brandon Finch added 10 points.

Josh Barrett and Rashad Tate each scored 11 points for the Falcons (12-11, 5-4). Ishmael Hollis added 10 points for Flowery Branch.

Johnson visits Gainesville at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 60, West Forsyth 57

Kymmon Woods hit a 25-foot buzzer beater to give the Vikings a last-second win Tuesday at East Hall High.

East Hall (11-12, 4-5 Region 7B-AAA) had a 46-28 lead early in the game, but a West Forsyth rally forced East Hall to break a late tie with Woods’ shot.

Woods finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Dustin Duckworth added 19 points and eight rebounds.

John Benedict scored 16 points for the Wolverines.

East Hall visits West Hall at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

East Hall girls 49, West Forsyth 39

The Lady Vikings outscored West Forsyth 13-2 in the first quarter and fought off the Wolverines the rest of the way for a subregion win Tuesday at East Hall High.

Jasmine Jenkins led East Hall (17-7, 7-2 Region 7B-AAA) with 12 points. Megan Whittaker scored 16 points for West Forsyth.

East Hall visits West Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Hall boys 50, White County 40

Robby Hill and Chris Barnes each scored 10 points as the Trojans kept its subregion record untarnished Tuesday at North Hall High.

Ashely Lowery and Luke Crumley led White County with 10 points each.

North Hall (18-6, 11-0 Region 7A-AAA) visits Lumpkin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday. White County (7-16, 4-7) faces Chestatee on Friday.

North Hall girls 59, White County 39

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 16-5 run in the first quarter and held off White County the rest of the way Tuesday at North Hall High.

Sarah Paschall recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for North Hall (9-15, 4-7 Region 7A-AAA). Jayme Whitfield led the Lady Warriors (3-19, 0-11) with 16 points.

North Hall visits Lumpkin County at 7 p.m. Friday. White County plays host to Chestatee at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy girls 32, Athens Academy 23

A 19-point second quarter made the difference as the Lady Lions wrapped up their regular season Tuesday in Athens.

Louisa Jacobs led Lakeview (15-6, 13-3 Region 8-A) with 12 points. Kelly Foster scored 10 points for Athens Academy.

Lakeview will play in the Region 8-A tournament next week.

Athens Academy boys 63, Lakeview Academy 46

Haughton Carswell scored 13 points as the Lions ended its regular season with a region loss Tuesday in Athens.

Jeremy Burgess led Athens Academy with 16 points. McKay Matthews scored 14 points and Joey Miller added 13 points for the Spartans.

Lakeview plays host to the Region 8-A tournament Tuesday.

Riverside Military 64, Rabun County 54

Brandon McKinney scored 17 points, Richard Tribble added 16 and Dylen Setzekorn had 12 as the Eagles wrapped up subregion play unbeaten with a win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Corey Page led Rabun County with 13 points. Luke Cross added 10.

Riverside (10-6, 8-0 Region 8A-AA) plays host to Oglethorpe County at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Jefferson boys 76, Banks County 60

Darius Minor scored 20 points and Cody Smith added 13 as the Dragons won their 12th straight game Tuesday in Jefferson.

Kevin Daniel led Banks County with 23 points. Kasey Hudgins added 10.

Jefferson (21-3, 7-0 Region 8B-AA) visits North Oconee at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Banks County (13-11, 3-4) plays host to East Jackson at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Banks County girls 50, Jefferson 46

Lauren Kennedy scored 17 points and Madison Franklin added 11 as the Lady Leopards edged Jefferson for a subregion win Tuesday in Jefferson.

Callie Holloway led Jefferson with 14 points. Erin Knight scored 13 and Emily Jacobs added 10.

Banks County (11-13, 4-4 Region 8B-AA) plays host to East Jackson County at 7 p.m. Friday. Jefferson (10-14, 5-2) visits North Oconee at 7 p.m. Friday.

Buford girls 55, Decatur 39

Class AA’s top-ranked Lady Wolves won their 20th straight game in a region contest Tuesday in Buford.

Andraya Carter led Buford (22-1, 12-0 Region 6-AA) with nine points. Jewell Alford scored 15 points for Decatur.

Buford plays host to Lovett at 7 p.m. Friday.

Dawson County boys 37, Fannin County 32

Kaleb Holbrook and Ben Daniels each scored nine points for the Tigers on Tuesday in Dawsonville.

Dawson County (13-10, 3-4 Region 8A-AA) visits Rabun County at 8:30 p.m. Friday for third place in the subregion.

Fannin County girls 46, Dawson County 33

Jessi Phillips scored 13 points and had four rebounds for the Lady Tigers on Tuesday in Dawsonville.

Stephanie Anderson led Fannin County with 16 points.

Dawson County visits Rabun County at 7 p.m. Friday.

Chestatee boys 1, Sequoyah 0

David Medina scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick in the War Eagles’ season opener Tuesday at Chestatee High.

Goalkeeper Gustavo Chavez recorded the shutout for Chestatee (1-0).

Chestatee visits Winder-Barrow at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

White County girls 3, Franklin County 0

Kaitlyn Hooper scored two goals and had an assist in the Lady Warriors’ season opener Tuesday in Carnesville.

Brie Ballinger also scored for White County (1-0). Her sister, Sam Ballinger, assisted the goal. Megan Runkle recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Warriors.

White County visits East Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

White County boys 7, Franklin County 3

Chris Gaines scored four goals and Mark Bardenwerper added three as the Warriors cruised in their season opener Tuesday in Carnesville.

Goalkeeper Kolby Mooney earned the win for White County (1-0).

White County visits East Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson girls 3, Winder-Barrow 1

Bethany Johnson scored two goals for the Lady Knights in their season opener Tuesday in Oakwood.

Kayla Madsen added a goal and an assist for Johnson (1-0). Kayleigh Durden also had an assist. Sarah Hudgins led the Lady Knights on defense.

Johnson visits South Cobb at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

West Hall boys 7, North Forsyth 1

Juan Arbelaez scored three goals and added two assists in the Spartans’ dominant season-opening win Tuesday in Cumming.

Rudy Vazquez added two goals and had one assist for West Hall (1-0). Alex Munoz and Chris Lewis each scored one goal.

Jamie King made two saves in goal for the Spartans.

West Hall plays host to Monroe Area at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

North Hall girls 2, Buford 1

Allie Wright scored both of the Lady Trojans goals in an early-season battle between two ranked opponents Tuesday at North Hall High.

Buford’s lone goal came late in the second half.

Goalkeeper Gabbie Smith made nine saves in goal for North Hall (1-0).

North Hall faces Norcross at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Brookwood Tournament in Lilburn. Buford (0-1) plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
