Watson steers Gainesville past Johnson

Deshaun Watson led Gainesville (11-5, 5-1 Region 8B-AAA) in scoring with 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 61-52 win against Johnson (7-9, 0-4) Tuesday night in Oakwood.

Lance White finished with 12 points for the Red Elephants.

Johnson's Matt Hollis returned from a recent knee injury and finished with a game-high 18 points. Ty Odem scored 15 points with eight rebounds for the Knights.

Gainesville visits Christ School (N.C.) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Arden, N.C. Johnson hosts Walnut Grove at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Oakwood.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 48, JOHNSON 25: Rebecca Webster led the Lady Red Elephants (10-6), scoring 12 points on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Lyndsey Pethel led the Lady Knights (2-14, 1-3 Region 8B-AAA), scoring seven points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Leading 27-17 after three quarters, Gainesville outscored Johnson 21-8 in the fourth.

Gainesville visits West Hall at 6 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood, and Johnson hosts Walnut Grove at 7 p.m. Friday in Oakwood.

NORTH HALL BOYS 84, LUMPKIN COUNTY 59: Ebo Smith led the Trojans (13-3, 2-0 Region 8A-AAA) with 21 points and Adam Kelly added 19 on Tuesday in Gainesville.

The Trojans jumped to a 21-8 lead after the first period to take first control of the game.

Devante Anderson scored 15 for the Indians and Jacob Haskel added 10.

North Hall visits White County at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Cleveland.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 44, APALACHEE 35: Jamaad Stephens led the Falcons (6-9, 1-1 8A-AAAA) with 15 points Tuesday night in South Hall. Andrew Miles finished with 12 points for the Falcons.

The Falcons visit Habersham Central at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Mt. Airy

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 52, APALACHEE 47: Cara Chilton led the Lady Falcons (9-6, 2-0 Region 8A-AAAA) in scoring with 12 points Tuesday night in Flowery Branch.

Tavia Sykes scored 11 points and Marissa Ivey chipped in 10 for Lady Falcons, which visit Habersham Central at 7 p.m. Friday in Mt. Airy.

WALNUT GROVE GIRLS 52, WEST HALL 50: Maia Booker led the Lady Spartans (5-14, 2-3 Region 8B-AAA) with 17 points Tuesday night in Loganville.

West Hall hosts Gainesville at 6 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 58, RABUN COUNTY 54: Deasha Beasley led the Lady Leopards with 20 points and Katelyn Duncan added 14 in a win against No. 3 Rabun County on Tuesday in Homer.

Madison Franklin finished with 11 points for Banks County.

Banks County trailed 19-7 after the first quarter and trailed 29-23 at halftime.

UNION COUNTY BOYS 46, FANNIN COUNTY 39: Rhett McCombs led the Panthers (9-6, 1-0 Region 8A-AA) with a game-high 18 points Tuesday night in Blairsville. Junior Zach Odom came back from a recent injury and finished with 16 points for the Panthers.

Union County visits Rabun County at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Tiger.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 53, FANNIN COUNTY 38: Rebecka Merritt led the Lady Panthers (13-2, 1-0 Region 8A-AA) by scoring a game-high 15 points Tuesday night in Blairsville.

Chestatee wrestles in the Class AAA state duals Friday in Macon.

CHESTATEE 51, FRANKLIN COUNTY 18: Wright, Wesley, Brock, Miller, Jose Reyes, and Taylor Albarado all recorded pins for the War Eagles Tuesday night in Carnesville.

NORTH HALL WRESTLING TAKES TWO: The Trojans topped Jackson County (42-38) and Mill Creek (60-19) in duals matches on Tuesday.

The Trojans next wrestle in the Class AAA state duals on Friday in Macon.
