The Gainesville High boys golf program got better as the afternoon went along, paced by team-low scores of 75 by Ryan Hogan and Drew Lasseter, and won the Region 8-AAAAAA championship (305) by 20 shots over second-place Habersham Central on Monday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville. A state qualifier event in the past, it will now be an Area 2 Class AAAAAA tournament combined with Region 3-AAAAAAA on May 3 at Chattahoochee to see who qualifies for one of the four team spots to the championship meet. Region 3-AAAAAA includes Augusta-area schools with strong golf programs, including Lakeside-Evans, Greenbrier, Evans and Grovetown.
