Chestatee grad earns conference honors

Tennessee State guard and Chestatee High grad was named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday.

Smith scored 31 points and was 9-for-13 shooting in the Tigers’ 91-87 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3 freshman was 8-for-12 in 3-point attempts and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

The recognition is Smith’s second in the last three weeks. He currently averages 10.4 points per game in his first season with Tennessee State.

Smith graduated from Chestatee in 2008. He was The Times Boys Basketball Player of the Year his senior season with the War Eagles.
