Peyton Robertson scored 20 points and pulled down four rebounds, and the Chestatee girls basketball team upset top-seeded LaGrange 36-29 in the opening round of the Class AAA tournament Friday in LaGrange.

Rachel Kelly added 10 points and six rebounds for Chestatee (23-5), which used a 14-7 run in the fourth quarter to close the game and earn the win over the No. 1 seed from Region 6-AAA.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams; the score was 4-2 after the first quarter in Chestatee’s favor.

LaGrange held an 11-10 lead at halftime, but Chestatee outscored the Lady Grangers 12-11 in the third to knot the score at 22 going into the final period.

Despite Chestatee being the fourth seed from Region 8-AAA, coach Web Daniel said, he “wouldn’t call it an upset.”
“The girls played hard and earned it.” Daniel said.

Sam Brown added six points and six rebounds for Chestatee, which will visit second-seeded Cartersville on Tuesday at a time to be determined. The Lady Purple Hurricanes (18-11) defeated No. 3 seed Stone Mountain 78-74 on Friday in Cartersville.
