FLOWERY BRANCH — With its back against the wall following a surprising loss in the first of a three-game series against Salem on Wednesday, the Flowery Branch baseball team needed a strong performance in game two of the Region 8-AAAA play-in series to give itself a chance at salvaging a playoff berth. Mission accomplished. Chase Hulsey, who started on the mound in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex, pitched a complete-game shutout, leading the Falcons over Salem 4-0 and saving a pitching staff that had been stretched to its limit after a 12-inning affair on Wednesday.
