Basketball: Falcons rebound with win

Led by four players in double figures, including a 20-point effort by power forward Izaan Cross, the Class AAA No. 5-ranked Falcons recovered from a disappointing loss in the finals of Lanierland to beat North Hall, 76-63, on Monday.

North Hall (3-2, 2-1) started hot, scoring six straight before Flowery Branch (8-1, 5-0) scored on a 3-pointer by junior Josh Barrett.

Barrett later managed to give his team the lead, at 12-10 late in the first quarter, with his second 3-point attempt and make of the night.

The two-point lead was Flowery Branch’s first of the game and the last time the Trojans were within two points of the Falcons.

The lead was as high as nine in the second quarter before senior guard Brandon Nix stepped in.

Nix kept North Hall in the game in the second period and cut the Falcons lead back to four with nine straight points on three 3-pointers. Nix finished the game with 18 points, all from beyond the arc. North Hall junior Ethan Satterfield matched his teammate, also scoring 18.

The Trojans were down only seven at the start of the third period; however, that would quickly change as Flowery Branch scored six points in the first minute of the second half, sparking a 9-0 run that was capped by a 3-pointer by Daniel Tosta, who finished the game with 10 points.

North Hall once again came back and cut the lead to six with three minutes to go in the game.

But free throws by Rashad Tate and free throws and a layup by A.C. Bailey stifled any hope North Hall had and sealed the win for the Falcons.

Bailey scored 13 for the Falcons and Barrett finished with 11.
