After three rounds of action on Friday at Habersham Central High, four teams are each within reach of a team championship at the Area 8-AAAA traditionals tournament.

Flowery Branch sits in fourth place behind Clarke Central, Rockdale County and Loganville. The four teams are separated by a total of just six points.

The Falcons have done well individually as all 13 of the wrestlers they brought are still alive in the tournament.

Eight will compete in the semifinals today: Ben Horton (120), Zach Winter (126), Nick Lankford (132), Caleb Murphy (138), Eli Bloomfield (160), Anthony Williams (170), Grant Simonds (195), and Keaton Coker (285).

Five others are alive in consolation matches. Flowery Branch entered the tournament a man down after Robert Bland (152) broke his foot a week ago.

The top four wrestlers in each class will move on to sectionals next week.

The semifinals will begin at 9 a.m. today at Habersham Central High.

JEFFERSON ON TOP IN AREA 8-AA: After one day of action in Elberton, the Jefferson Dragons lead Elbert County and Banks County in the Area 8-AA traditionals tournament.

Although it is trailing in the team standings, East Hall still has nine wrestlers alive in the tournament.

Six will be wrestling in consolation matches today, while three will take part in the semifinals.

Carlos Negron (152), Tyler Thomas (182) and J.D. Holloway (heavyweight) have a chance at winning individual championships for the Vikings.

The semifinals begin at 9 a.m. today at Elbert County High.
